If you’re looking to get the very best out of your e-cig – and e-juice – experience then you may well have to evolve your vaping on to ‘sub-ohming’. It’s this kind of vaping that enables you to have full control over how powerfully you vape the liquid you buy and how thoroughly you use the device you’ve either customised (or even built) yourself or bought specially for the purpose. Fair dos; that’s all well and good, but just what is sub-ohm vaping when it’s at home then?
What is it?
So, put simply; it’s the act of vaping via a device whose atomiser coils have a resistance of less than one ohm. Now, the reason some advanced vapers ‘sub-ohm’ then is to push up the power output of fixed voltage devices (in some cases quite considerably), such as mechanical (or mech-) mods and non-variable regulated devices – all in the quest to create more vapour or more flavour. Sure, this may sound relatively simple but, like it or not, it can a complex topic to get your head around.
How does it work?
First things first; all mechanical mods, VV/VW regulated mods and e-cigs are electrical devices powered by a battery. And sub-ohm vaping uses the principles of Ohm's and Joule’s laws of electricity – what does this mean? Well, a non-variable voltage source like the battery in a mechanical vape mod’ll increase the total power output (wattage) of a device when the resistance (ohms) of its coils are decreased.
Don’t doubt it, though; it’s critical sub-ohm vaping is done safely. For, as you decrease a device’s resistance, you’ll in turn increase the amperage that the device uses to supply the current that’s needed. And this naturally increases the strain on the device’s battery and drives up the heat the battery and coils create. Do then, it’s imperative if you’re going in for sub-ohming you ensure that you never go beyond the amperage limit of your device’s battery – otherwise it could fail, potentially causing a fire or an explosion.
Horizon Falcon Sub-Ohm Tank – the ready-made sub-ohming solution
The brand-new flagship atomiser from those clever bods are Horizon Tech, the Horizon Falcon tank is the device you can call on to simplify sub-ohming – there’s no need to build your own super-duper atomiser as part of your own mod because this awesome bit of kit provides exactly the best of e cig tanks you need.
That’s because its luxurious chassis design comes complete with a triple bottom airflow system, incorporating an in-built new coil technology with innovative flax and wood pulp materials. Measuring 25.2mm in base diameter, the tank’s fitted with an ergonomically-informed grooved design, along with a beautiful resin-dyed widebore drip tip for a striking impression. And yet, arguably the most impressive feature’s to be found in the tank’s technology, as it features a series of sophisticated materials with microporous process for faster saturation and enhanced flavour profiles. Cracking stuff.
Each kit comes complete with a pair of coils; one a 0.2ohm F1 Falcon Coil with a centralised core, made from 30% wood pulp and 70% cotton, the other a 0.15ohm M1 Mesh Falcon Coil made with mesh design and a similar material construction as the F1. Finally, airflow is enabled to enter the structure via a triple slotted bottom airflow design, offering excellent cooling properties while maintaining constant peak flavour.
